From a human tutor who combines mindful learning and mentorship to build skills for life.
MATHS TUTOR
On this page you can find my credentials and my slightly abstract journey since I tutored my first student 15 years ago. My background is a mash-up of maths, real-world experience, and long-term educational insight – but it’s the communication and relationships thread that makes the difference in my teaching.
I fully believe in replacing pressure with patience. Learning happens when students are met where they are, and by building confidence through the space we create together. I help students understand “what the hell does this even mean?”, build skills (not just knowledge), and progress towards overall goals.

HOW I HELP
Understand where we are, where we need to get to, and find the way forward that works for us.
MINDFUL LEARNING
Sure, maths is all about breaking it down. But what if you don’t know where to start in the first place?
Problem-solving is about being able to respond to what happens in the present. Leaning on mindfulness, I encourage students to understand their own thinking and how they learn. (Metacognition is the fancy name!)
When we stop judging ourselves, worrying about getting it right, we create space for curiosity.
What’s your first thought? Can you follow it? Where do you get stuck? What bells are ringing?
We aim to channel that growing awareness into problem-solving, building flexibility and independence along the way. It’s a great way of seeing what you are capable of – and it’s this confidence that is linked to maths capability. We cannot be prepared for everything, but we can build trust in ourselves to have a crack at what comes up.
FILL THE GAP
Instead of teaching students the curriculum they need to know, I teach them the curriculum they need to learn – each is unique. There are often common sore points with students, but no two students have exactly the same areas of strength and gaps.
Maths is a building block subject. The lower blocks need to be strong to hold the next ones. I always aim to meet learners where they are, identify their confidence levels, and shuffle back to basics if we need to. Learning is about building the path from here to independence, from my explanations and demonstrations, through to sharing practice and gradually leading questions yourself.
MEET THE GOAL
Passing exams isn’t exactly the same thing as being good at maths. We need to balance analytical skills with strategy and efficient management, and answer things like:
Where needs more focus? What are the patterns across exam questions? What extra home study is needed?
I keep an eye on progress, putting all the parts together like a puzzle.
Students lean on me for direction and to feel confident we will cover all bases. For older students and adult learners, it’s a great opportunity to develop self-management skills as we do this in partnership.

I work across GCSE, A Level and foundational maths, including Edexcel, AQA, Cambridge and WJEC, alongside adult and international learners.
Here’s my background, experience and credentials.
2009
Started tutoring as a student
My maths teacher asked me to help younger students after school. So I tutored my first student when I was just 15!
2016
Master’s Degree in Maths
After 4 years of at the University of Bath (and some tears), I graduated with a First Class MMATH. I specialised in Pure Maths – because I love the “why”.
2016 – 23
Real life application
7 years in asset management – lots of communicating complex ideas in simple ways. I took many financial exams! And trained interns and graduates.
2019 – 22
Supporting education
Alongside my work, I was a governor for a local school and volunteered in projects to support STEM and social mobility.
2023
Bringing in mindfulness
I quit my job, travelled the world and trained as a Mindfulness teacher. I bring those techniques and values into learning and work.
2025 – 26
Tutoring focus
After many years of people reaching out for maths support, I decided to commit more of my time. I delivered over 500 hours to over 40 students in the last year.
I offer a free 20-minute trial session so we can get to know each other and start planning. But please get in touch with your situation and what you would like to achieve and we can start chatting about how I can help!
Sessions last for 50 minutes and start from £40. Based in Essex, I am fully set up to deliver classes online, so learning is comfortable and convenient.
